Valentine Day, Valentines Day, Valentine’s Day

Take your pick, there are spellings aplenty, with wee curvy apostrophe’s here there and everywhere. Does it matter? I hear you say.

If your expecting me to now delve into the various issues and “camps” around the use of language…forget…I studied chemistry and could barely fill a page with words until I was about 26!

And anyway, he’s not the right saint. The good old Catholic Church has come out and said we’ve got it wrong , “St Valentine has come incorrectly to be associated with finding love. He is the patron saint for those who have already found their soulmate.

St Raphael is the patron saint for happy encounters and it is to him those fearing the Valentine’s post should properly direct their prayers”…

..So that’s us told!

And what about the money we spend. They say a country the size of Canada (30 million) can spend up to a $1 billion on St Valentine’s Day. What a waste of money (as Celtic fans would say of tor Andre Flo!).

Why not just save the money and give it to a different medium sized 3rd world country every year. That’d go some way to solving some problems….

And this amount of wilful spending should be a lesson to our bleating about credit crunch and all that nonesense. We all have homes, and food, and phones, and telly, and internet and entertainment..

What are we missing….a sense of reality?
