Breakfast in Berlin.

Went to Berlin at the weekend for the first time ever. I really enjoyed it. I had spoken to several friends who had been there “before the wall came down” and didn’t know what to expect. But it was quite magic. Friedrichstrasse was a strange mix of commercialism gone mad. Conspicuous consumption everywhere.

But I really liked round about the Zoological train station, someof it quite scummy, some really  nice..

Russians and Red Road

Like Frankie Boyle might say. “Fucking extreme to throw yourself out a 15th story window just because you were being sent back to Canada!”

What does it say about our current inhumanity that these people are here with £35 a week and no dignity. I grew up wondering about how people lived in Eastern Europe, reading Alistair Maclean and Len Deighton novels about spies meeting in Fredrichstrasse in Berlin.

Those misguided fools got our crappy TV shows about teen sex and drugs….not true!

They end up here and living in Red Road. Talk about shock. I’ve read most of the reports about how dismal Red road is. Nonesense. I went to school there in the 70’s and we thought it was an amazing place, big kitchens, lovely toilets, indoor drying areas. It was a “brave new world”. The problem was the Thatcher government fucked everyone up!

No jobs, no future.

From 1979 onward it became a ghetto. The Have nots and the have absolutely nothings!!!

BBC 6 Music and the BBC Managers

Read somewhere recently about modern managers being like baseball coaches who only coached by looking at the scoreboard. Like the old comedy line about “never mind the quality feel the width”.

I actually went on the BBC Trust online consulatation. What a sham. It is such a stitch up. They have no shame. Halfway through they call 6 Music a “pop station”. Who wrote that? Do they ever listen to the wireless….

Stupid comment from me there cos it’s on Digital!

Really, if they want to move things on…sell Radio 1 and move “6” onto the main airwaves.

And to go on TV and sugggest they will fit the “ethos” of 6 into Radio 1 is a lie.  You only have to cast your mind back to the way Radio treated the late great John Peel. moving his show around the palce and moving it later and later. It was a bloody shame.

There is just such a lack of trust between audience and broadcaster these days. That’s why Mark Riley, Steve Lamaq, Cerys Mathews, Gary Crowley etc are much preferred to that guy on Radio 1 in the morning…can’t even  mind his name.

But they are not daft..they know it’ll start a fight and take the heat of their moneygrabbing, moral busting lives!
